All About The Grammy Academy
All About The Grammy Academy
When I think of a professional or trade
organization directly related to my industry of expertise, none other than the
Grammy Academy comes to mind. In the music industry, no other organization is
more well respected than the Grammy academy. It is a well known fact that the
Grammy Academy organizes the yearly Grammy awards ceremony, but there is more
to the Grammy academy than just an awards show for industry professionals to
recognize the accomplishments of their peers.
The Grammy U segment of the academy is a facet
of the organization designed specifically for college students studying for
careers in the music and music related industries. I myself have been a member
of this segment of the academy for a couple months now, and the amount of
information and resources offered to these students is astounding. There are
conferences held with different industry speakers, e-mails sent with valuable
information, and even opportunities to attend Grammy related events leading up
to the Grammy awards show.
Grammy in the Schools is a program available
through the Grammy Academy which gives high-school students opportunities which
would otherwise be unavailable to them. This program allows high school
students to interact with industry professionals and get an expert's
perspective on the industry. In addition, this program promotes careers in all
aspects of the music industry, not just the performance side of things. When
combined with the fact that Grammy in the Schools occasionally donates to
educational programs that excel at promoting creativity in students with a
musical interest, this aspect of the Grammy Academy proves to be a valid and
worthwhile venture.
Grammy's on the hill refers to the political advocacy arm of the
Grammy Academy. Via an established office in Washington D.C., Grammy's on the
Hill works to effect change in political policies related to musicians and
their art form. This organization works closely with politicians and other
recorded and performance arts organizations to improve conditions and
compensation for musicians and performing artists.
Music Cares is one way that the Grammy Academy gives back to those
individuals who give their life to the music industry. As anyone who’s seen a
Nationwide commercial can tell you, life comes at you fast and things don’t
always go according to plans. When members of the Grammy Academy fall on hard
times, Music Cares is the group that can step in and offer some assistance.
The Grammy Museum is modern museum experience which celebrates the
history of the Grammy Academy. There are permanent and transient exhibits, lectures,
a theater, and even space for private events. All of this adds up to a unique
and memorable way to preserve the rich culture of the Grammy Academy and it’s
members.
